We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: the German edition of Vogue simply isn’t what it once was. Under the tutelage of Kerstin Weng (who has served as head of editorial content since 2021), the magazine has been extremely hit and miss (heavy on the miss, FYI). Covers over recent months starring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Emilia Schüle, Emma Corrin, Heike Makatsch, and Sandra Hüller have flopped HARD. Weng appears to be trying to make amends, however, by inviting Nadja Auermann onto the cover of Vogue Germany for May 2025. The iconic German model (once stated by the Guinness Book of Records to have the longest legs of any model in the world) appears before the lens of photographer Scott Trindle. In the stripped-back cover shot, Auermann appears makeup-free wearing a cream jacket from the Marni Spring 2025 collection.

Also very much a fan was vogue28. “Nadja Auermann on the cover of Vogue Germany feels like a cause for celebration! So glad the team never did anything crazy in terms of concept. Just a beautiful cover photograph of a beautiful woman with zero gimmicks,” he shared.

Not everyone, however, was feeling it. “Nadja is one my all time faves. She’s the ultimate ‘femme fatale’ model. Her kilometer-long legs, the piercing blue eyes, the icy blond bob, the razor sharp cheekbones… That’s why I don’t care for this mature woman styling. Gimme full on Helmut Newton fantasy!” wrote Marc10.

“Love Nadja but the cover is hideous. She looks tired,” commented forum member Avonlea.

Italia hasn’t exactly been our go-to down at the newsstand this year. Not even covers of Amber Valletta, Anok Yai, Gigi Hadid and Claudia Schiffer have sufficed. Now the magazine reveals its final offering of the year featuring January 2019’s cover girl Rebecca Leigh Longendyke. The American stunner stars in Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott’s family drama wearing Celine and Bulgari jewelry courtesy of Katy England. She’s joined by a handful of others (including supermodel Nadja Auermann) in the dramatic cover image.

The cover actually received a few rave reviews. “One of their better covers for sure. Very intriguing. Rebecca looks stunning here,” declared Marc10.

“Like a movie poster. I’m intrigued. I like it,” Lax89 chimed in.

Nomar was also a fan: “I love the satirical vibe of this. It looks really good.”

Although the cover wasn’t for everyone. “Honestly, would never in my life be able to tell this was shot by Mert and Marcus,” proclaimed dontbeadrag.

“No one could,” replied Melancholybaby. “Looks like the poster of a film where a family gathers for a Christmas meal/some sort of celebration and all sorts of drama and revelations ensue. And why is Nadja playing second fiddle to these nobodies?”

“I love Rebecca and she looks gorgeous, but the cover just isn’t working. It’s ugly, it’s messy, the people behind look so cheap and horrible, especially the girl in tartan that looks like your goth cousin who hates everyone. It’s all way too Vogue Ukraine for me,” complained aracic.

Of course, the images became an instant hit. “Wow, stunning!! Lindbergh ditched the usual suspects (Naomi/Christy/Linda et al) and suddenly it looks so fresh. I’ve never seen Stella look this good, and Eva reminds me somewhat of Charlotte Rampling,” raved Benn98.

“Amazing cast. And those clothes are perfection,” applauded narcyza.
Showing the same sort of enthusiasm was burbuja8910, admitting, “Stunning, these women look great. Reminds me of the ed with the reunion with Nadja, Eva and the other supers for Vogue Italia last year.”

KissMiss couldn’t wait to use the words, “Amazing!!! Simple! Beautiful! Natural!” to describe the portraits.

In the same frame of mind was justaguy, enthusing, “Love this, these girls still have it!”

Forum member t-rex agreed. “Love love love the cast. Fashion has been bothering me more and more with the teenage models,” she confessed in admiration.

Vogue Germany may have knocked it out of the park by enlisting Nadja, but it seems most of our forum members aren’t happy with a certain something. “Such a beautiful image and it is wonderful to see Nadja but I almost wish they removed the text to just let the image show. When you’ve got Nadja you don’t need any text!” noted Luxx.

“A striking shot ruined by the text. The text consumes her,” replied MON, in agreement over the unnecessary cover lines.

Also acknowledging the amount of text was Miss Dalloway, who commented, “Too much text, but such a strong image of Nadja, that you can’t help but look at her, past that sea of text!”

Discussion soon settled and a positive attitude continued to fill the thread. “Nadja in all her badass femme fatale glory. Fantastic cover,” raved Marc10.

Naturally, the majority of our forum members are delighted with the supermodel reunion. “Vogue September issues kickoff! This looks sensational. It’s simple but for me, has maximum impact. I’ve noticed they’ve grouped the models into the decades, i.e. 80s, 90s and 00s, [for which] they were most well known,” wrote AL92.

“I knew it would be epic! And I am so happy it’s a fold-out cover! Can’t wait to get this issue soon!” enthused Starry.

Nepenthes was also very excited and posted, “This is almost too iconic! Everyone looks so pristine and flawless. Great job, Vogue Japan, there is nothing about this cover that I don’t love. Can’t wait for the eds!”
