We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: the German edition of Vogue simply isn’t what it once was. Under the tutelage of Kerstin Weng (who has served as head of editorial content since 2021), the magazine has been extremely hit and miss (heavy on the miss, FYI). Covers over recent months starring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Emilia Schüle, Emma Corrin, Heike Makatsch, and Sandra Hüller have flopped HARD. Weng appears to be trying to make amends, however, by inviting Nadja Auermann onto the cover of Vogue Germany for May 2025. The iconic German model (once stated by the Guinness Book of Records to have the longest legs of any model in the world) appears before the lens of photographer Scott Trindle. In the stripped-back cover shot, Auermann appears makeup-free wearing a cream jacket from the Marni Spring 2025 collection.

Also very much a fan was vogue28. “Nadja Auermann on the cover of Vogue Germany feels like a cause for celebration! So glad the team never did anything crazy in terms of concept. Just a beautiful cover photograph of a beautiful woman with zero gimmicks,” he shared.

Not everyone, however, was feeling it. “Nadja is one my all time faves. She’s the ultimate ‘femme fatale’ model. Her kilometer-long legs, the piercing blue eyes, the icy blond bob, the razor sharp cheekbones… That’s why I don’t care for this mature woman styling. Gimme full on Helmut Newton fantasy!” wrote Marc10.

“Love Nadja but the cover is hideous. She looks tired,” commented forum member Avonlea.

One thing we’ve learned about Samira Nasr is that she has a knack for selecting fresh and exciting faces for the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Take Sarah Paulson and Liya Kebede who recently made their debuts on the magazine. Now Vanessa Kirby can be added to the impressive list with the actress gracing Bazaar‘s double December/January issue. The English beauty lends her elegance and poise to the cover decked out in a pink Prada coat from the brand’s Spring 2021 menswear collection courtesy of Charlotte Roberts for the image captured by Scott Trindle.

Bazaar‘s latest divided our forum members. “Amazing to see Vanessa on a major U.S. cover. We stan!” admired [Piece Of Me].

“I am ALL for seeing Vanessa Kirby, she’s photographed beautifully here (surprise, surprise) and everything feels and looks…expensive. A very classy and sophisticated cover…” praised vogue28.

“Well this is a surprise! Would never expect to see Vanessa here, but she’s more than a welcome sight!” approved aracic.

For everyone else, the cover was a major letdown. “I like Vanessa, but what the hell is this? It has no soul, no sophistication. It’s just…there,” said dodencebt.

“I love Vanessa but wish she wasn’t clutching the coat so close to her face. She’s losing her neck!” noted RedSmokeRise.

“Do editors know how to pick a good shot anymore these days?” asked Ken Doll Jenner.

Miss Dalloway couldn’t agree more: “This is NOT a cover shot, Samira really has no clue at all!”

It’s common knowledge that the magazine industry is going through tough times. Despite Allure‘s attempts to switch things up by scaling back the frequency of its print issues and dedicating issues to certain themes, our forum members are finding it hard to engage with the magazine’s new look and feel. Allure seems to have forgotten about a little thing called glamour and after a raw and unpolished Adwoa Aboah cover last month, Sasha Lane becomes the face of the ‘Disruptors Issue’ for May 2018. Photographed by Scott Trindle, the actress delivers a perfectly satisfactory portrait cover image.

Once again, our forum members are not in a rush to snag a copy. “OK, I’m done with Allure,” proclaimed jal718 the moment the cover struck, about to set the tone for discussion to follow.

“Seriously!! How is this magazine still around? Ever since Linda [Wells] left it has been such a mess. This try-hard indie feel does not suit, at all!” Miss Dalloway added in frustration.

“Just no,” said Nocturnal.

Benn98 wasn’t here for it either: “This is the final nail in the coffin for me! Shut it down. The problem is that they’re marketing only to one group, and I doubt whether said group are actually investing in print. Michelle Lee seems clearly in a rush for this magazine to go bust. Never got this girl’s appeal nor why she’s always on magazine covers. Another case where the actual amount of films doesn’t back up the hype.”

Also quick to take a swipe at the magazine’s EIC was GivenchyHomme, commenting, “She’s very beautiful but this is just wrong for this magazine. The tattoos and braids juxtaposed against that yellow top creates a very strange and unappealing combination. I absolutely loathe Michelle Lee and what she’s done to this magazine. She has no business running a magazine.”

“Linda [Wells] had a vision. Now it’s lost and it’s a joke. They have 100 pages in the big months and 60 of them is advertisements and 40 is content. JOKE!” caioherrero stated.

As the September issues continue to be released, our forum members have been complaining about all the predictable and safe covers. Until now, that is. Allure, which has been having a great year with issues dedicated to celebrating diversity and breaking down stereotypes, now delivers none other than Helen Mirren as its September cover star. The 72-year-old British actress looks radiant in the cover shot wearing a stark white Carmen March dress, captured by photographer Scott Trindle.

Needless to say, our forum members were ecstatic. “No way! Definitely getting this. Helen was the last person I’d have expected to see on Allure. She looks great here and age-appropriate,” applauded Benn98 the second the cover struck.

“What a pleasant surprise!” exclaimed Suhzie.

“Definitely the best September cover so far for me!” declared a more than satisfied Ed.

Also surprised was Miss Dalloway. “WHOA!!! What a glorious cover star surprise! Love everything about this, and thank you for not airbrushing her into oblivion Allure! I was wondering where Allure’s September cover was. [Michelle Lee] is really thinking out of the box, and trying different subjects, and images for the cover,” she commented.

“Great cover! Love seeing Helen,” voiced Nymphaea.

“Allure comes through to save September! This is incredible!” Lucien112 praised.

“Such a wonderful surprise! I’d prefer it without the arm but I guess they were going for that contrast?” quizzed kokobombon.

KateTheGreatest wrote, “The fourth picture (below right) would have been a better cover, I don’t like the arm. It is so random. Good to see her though!”

Our forums were disappointed when Allure jumped on the Kendall Jenner bandwagon last month for the October issue. The magazine redeems itself, however, with the release of the November 2016 cover featuring the beautiful Amanda Seyfried. Photographed by Scott Trindle, the American actress gives us arguably the strongest cover of the season wearing a velvet blazer and a head full of bouncy curls.

What’s not to love? Our forum members sure were more than content with the outcome. “What a beautiful cover for them. The rich colors and overall mood is very autumnal, which is appropriate. Never knew she had a mole, but Amanda looks great here,” raved a more than delighted Benn98, the second the cover came to light.

“It’s beautiful and classy,” added narcyza, feeling the same way.

“Wow. Stunning!” described an elated nataliaapple.

Sharing the same sentiments toward the cover was MON, applauding, “Great cover. Perfect colors. Working layout.”

Tigerrogue couldn’t believe her eyes either. “At last, an Allure cover that’s worth looking at, and in such beautiful autumn colors. It makes me look forward to seeing the cover shoot and the rest of the contents,” she anticipated.

“Best Allure cover in months!” declared a more than satisfied jal718.

“Perfect colors for a November cover. Great hair!” expressed Lucien112, in agreement with everyone else.

“I guess it makes sense because she has a beauty brand that is doing very well. But I’ve also heard that the quality isn’t great. It would be interesting to see if she discusses her working process at all. I’m sure she is barely even involved in it,” TREVOFASHIONISTO mocked.

Marc10 wasn’t exactly buying it either, pointing out, “How Kylie Has Changed Beauty… Good lord!”

Benn98 felt a little uncertain about the cover, too. “I’m still a bit perplexed why she’d get a Vanity Fair cover. Don’t you need a strong following to warrant one? The French are sure going hard at this nepotism thing. Kaia Gerber and Lottie Moss on Vogue Paris, Laetitia Casta’s sister on Lui and now Lily on VF.”

“I don’t mind her but I’m sort of tired of fashion people trying to make her a fashion icon. UGH. And hate that Chanel has embraced the hype…” disapproved a frustrated Creative.

Our forums were left divided over the cover. “My goodness this is depressing: Is this Vogue North Korea? And that’s what this issue resembles in spirit to me. No energy, no excitement, no joy, no fashion statement,” ranted Phuel immediately.

“Looks like something lifted from the 90s, there’s nothing current about this cover. I wish fashion, and in fact pop-culture, would just leave the 90s be!” added Benn98.

Also underwhelmed was Nomar, who disapproved, “Could’ve been executed so much better.”

“I like the image because it gives me ‘Amber in the 90s shot by [Peter] Lindbergh’ vibes but I don’t think it’s cover-worthy,” discredited kokobombon, as a very dim light started to appear at the end of the tunnel.

Nepenthes soon lifted the mood, admiring, “I like it. It feels very classic and laid back.”

In agreement was justaguy. “I actually like the cover too and love that it’s Amber!” he replied.

“I love this cover, super chic! Amber looks great,” raved a very much satisfied Emmanuelle.
