Subsequent to Edward Enninful’s debut issue as editor of British Vogue back in 2017, bold and impactful statements have been made via the magazine’s front covers. Enninful has brilliantly championed and tackled everything from age representation to size inclusivity. As Enninful rounds out his editorship (his last arriving with the March 2024 issue), the leader of the pack is shining a spotlight upon sustainability trailblazers for January 2024. To mark the occasion, Enninful welcomes actress Emma Watson, designers Tolu Coker, Priya Ahluwalia and Torishéju Dumi, in addition to model Amber Valletta across a trio of celebratory Charlotte Wales-shot covers.

British Vogue‘s latest took members of our forums by complete surprise. “Lovely cover for Emma, and what a treat to see Amber!” heralded LastNight.

“I love both Emma’s and Amber’s covers. So classic and very British,” admired ivano.

“Amber’s cover! I’m in love with the colors and she looks gorgeous,” chimed in forum member Kishan.

Vogue28 shared: “My most favorite out of the three covers is Emma Watson’s. The portrait itself is undeniably beautiful, love the coloring, the warmth, the lighting, the styling… all oh so lovely. The other two, however, feel like a complete non-event and a massive flop. Not loving the past few covers/issues of British Vogue…”

“Lovely covers with Amber and Emma, but come on now. There will be plenty of time for covers of this caliber once Edward is gone. All those months wasted on terrible covers by subpar photographers… what a pity. If March isn’t entirely shot by Steven Meisel, I don’t even want to see it,” voiced aracic.

“Boring covers. NEXT!” an underwhelmed Bertrando3 exclaimed.

2022 BAFTA Awards

If you’re not familiar with the BAFTA Awards, aka EE British Academy Film Awards, it’s basically Britain’s version of the Oscars. So, as you can imagine, celebs really bring their A game to the red carpet. Luckily, the 2022 BAFTA Awards are no exception.

Black was the most popular shade. Everyone from Adwoa Aboah to Naomi Campbell to Caitriona Balfe to Daisy Ridley to Millie Bobby Brown rocked the dark hue. There were still pops of bright color, though. They came courtesy of Ariana DeBose decked out in a vibrant Oscar de la Renta gown. Plus, the striking red Valentino haute couture ballgown worn by Haley Bennett. Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley’s neon pink Valentino outfit was another standout.

Jewel tones were also spotted. Lady Gaga’s rich emerald Ralph Lauren Collection number served pure Old Hollywood glamour. While Salma Hayek’s purple Gucci creation was a plush pick.

Not surprisingly, opera gloves were go-to accessories. After all their promotion up on runways recently, it’s no wonder they made their way to the red carpet. (Where they definitely don’t seem out of place.) Léa Seydoux’s glimmering Louis Vuitton dress offered a unique alternative boasting matching arm casts as opposed to gloves.

Scroll down to see all of the eye-catching looks from the 2022 BAFTA Awards.

UK Vogue December 2019 : Emma Watson by Alasdair McLellanThis year has undoubtedly belonged to Edward Enninful, who has dominated newsstands worldwide with British Vogue covers showcasing the likes of Naomi Campbell, Naomi Scott, Kate Moss, Madonna, Kaia Gerber and Jourdan Dunn. He even had Meghan Markle guest edit the magazine for September. Now U.K. Vogue wraps up 2019 with Emma Watson decked out in a red Alexander McQueen ruffled number (picked by Poppy Kain) for the vibrant December 2019 cover shot by Alasdair McLellan.

But members of our forums expected much more. “Your tagline is dress up and you’re showing me a beautiful and bored woman having a forced smile while sitting on a wood bench? C’mon Edward! Forgettable at best!” proclaimed Lola701. “Dress up…then sit down outdoors in a smoking area and look unhappy,” tigerrouge chimed in. “Autopilot. This is boring as hell, even if it’s not terrible. Looks like it could be from the [Alexandra] Shulman era,” disapproved Fiercification.

Srdjan wasn’t feeling it, either: “Not a fan of this one. Her face and hair look too sharp in comparison to the dress…” “She looks so uncomfortable. The styling is the complete opposite of her own. You can’t just throw your subject into any old dress and expect it to work. There has to be harmony between the actress and the styling. This isn’t a costume party!” exclaimed GivenchyHomme. Although not everyone was unsatisfied. “What a beautiful cover, that McQueen dress is so bold and her demeanor is calm yet it still doesn’t wear her!” admired Miss Dalloway. “Always loved Emma and I’m a big fan of this cover!” praised honeycombchild. Vogue Australia March 2018 : Emma Watson by Peter Lindbergh

Australia has been making quite an effort to create buzz and drive sales lately. The magazine unveiled a daring new redesign back in September (much to our forum members’ dismay) and now makes Emma Watson guest editor for March 2018. The Brit actress and activist was photographed by Peter Lindbergh for one of his signature effortless and laid-back photo shoots, resulting in two covers: one (below) with Emma cozying up in a thick knit sweater and a second (after the jump) featuring a smiling Emma wearing a black ruffled number.

The covers generated all sorts of feedback on our forums. “Shades of young Rachel Weisz in that first shot, with the long messy hair, pretty brows, and relaxed smile. Gorgeous. The second one (below) is too forced, with the fake Kate Middleton like smile,” commented HeatherAnne.

“It’s nice to see her smile! She’s beautiful. Love the first cover. She looks like she’s cold on the second one, and her smile does look more forced,” echoed Valentine27.

“I find both covers beautiful, and I think having her as a guest editor is a good choice,” Miss Dalloway voiced.

June was also quick to applaud the magazine’s choice of cover girl this month: “So happy to see her on the cover!”

Although not everyone was here for the outcome. “What happened to this magazine?” asked a disapproving marsnoop2.

“As long as she’s been around you would think she would know how to work it, but it’s the same face over and over again,” scolded an unfavorable GivenchyHomme.

“There’s absolutely nothing interesting about her or those covers,” mepps added.

If you’re noticing a lot of black on tonight’s Golden Globe Awards red carpet, it’s not a trend. At least not one motivated by fashion. Attendees are wearing black to show their support for the Time’s Up initiative started to bring attention to sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal (and the numerous scandals that followed). The movement is also raising funds to provide “subsidized legal support to those who have experienced sexual harassment, assault, or abuse in the workplace.” Several actresses are also walking the red carpet with noted women’s rights activists to make an even louder statement on the red carpet.

Everyone pretty much marched to the beat of their own fashion drum at the newly minted MTV Movie & TV Awards. The award show boasted genderless categories this go-round and a majority of the looks were über feminine with a few brave souls diverging from the pack by opting for more gender-neutral ensembles. Sparkle and fancy embroidery were definitely trending as several attendees embraced metallics, even down to their accessories. One-shoulder pieces were popular as were asymmetric hemlines. On the beauty front, strong lips were a real theme with stars rocking everything from deep red to bright blue lip colors. For all the fashion action from last night’s ceremony, check out the slideshow above.

has been gaining our attention in 2017 more than usual with a powerful Solange Knowles cover for February and the ever-beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer as its cover star for April. After a recent stint on both Vanity Fair and British ELLE, Emma Watson makes a return to Interview‘s front cover for May 2017. Posing for master photographer Peter Lindbergh on location in Paris, Emma looks effortless and at ease in the raw black and white cover photo wearing Louis Vuitton.
IMAGE: INTERVIEWMAGAZINE.COM But our forum members were let down by Interview‘s latest cover. “Lindbergh’s portraits of supermodels work because we become so used to seeing them in their ‘perfected form’ that an unairbrushed shot makes you stop and realize these beautiful women are real (and no less beautiful for that). To me, Emma always looks nicely ordinary, so it’s not really a treat to see her looking ordinary again, just with an extra helping of freckles. It’s nice, but it’s not a new dimension,” said tigerrouge after the cover surfaced. “I agree it doesn’t work here. The problem is that it all comes off so ordinarily gloomy with no atmosphere: underexposed and with no effort to transport the reader away from ordinary Emma. I usually enjoy it when Interview does these gloomy-in-the-springtime shoots, but they’re usually quite hauntingly glamorous and lush,” Phuel chimed in. Echoing the same sentiments was kewkaw: “Only good actors can deliver on Lindbergh’s photography. Emma seems bland for this issue. It doesn’t look bad but not as good as it should be!” “This is way too uninspired by Interview standards,” said an underwhelmed A.D.C. GivenchyHomme wasn’t exactly jumping for joy either. “Anyone else tired of her? She is just one actress I have absolutely ZERO interest in. Luckily the rest of the magazine is good, I’ll just have to flip right past her,” he noted. Check out Emma’s accompanying cover story and join the conversation here.

The post Misguided ‘Feminists’ Are Losing It Over Emma Watson’s Nearly Topless Vanity Fair Shoot appeared first on theFashionSpot.

]]>

These days, feminists have a heck of a lot to fight for and Emma Watson is one of the many female celebrities leading the charge. In fact, aside from Harry Potter, Watson is best known for pioneering the United Nations’ HeForShe campaign, which, as the name implies, urges men to take action and stand up for the rights of their mothers, sisters and daughters.

Recently, Watson has taken a break from delivering speeches at the U.N. to promote her new film, a live-action remake of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. In addition to making the rounds on a press tour, the actress appears on the latest issue of Vanity Fair. In one photo from the Tim Walker-lensed shoot, Watson poses in a sheer lace skirt and Burberry capelet — no bra, no blouse. Parts of her breasts are exposed, but it’s no Bella-Hadid-Dior-corset-dress situation.

10 Reasons Why Emma Watson Is the New Feminist Icon ]

Of course, to some critics, Watson cannot be both partially nude and a feminist. “Feminism, feminism … gender wage gap … why oh why am I not taken seriously … feminism … oh, and here are my tits!” tweeted British radio presenter and commentator Julia Hartley-Brewer. Cue eye roll.

To borrow the words of Gloria Steinem, who came to Watson’s defense, “Feminists can wear anything they fucking want.” Nudity is not inherently sexual. Watson’s photo is not a come-on. Men are not slut-shamed for displaying their nipples, much less the area around them. Watson is owning her body, celebrating her form. She looks great. And she shouldn’t have to apologize or comment on that decision. If there’s to be any discussion about Watson’s get-up, it should be whether or not Burberry is making good on its pledge to go eco-friendly by 2020. (Watson is a known advocate of sustainable fashion.)

We’ll leave you with these words, from the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador herself: “Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it. It’s very confusing.”
