For a whole multitude of seasons now, Ian Griffiths has favored a multi-girl cast for the Max Mara advertising campaigns. Since the Spring 2021 season, Max Mara’s campaigns have been cast starring a selection of the industry’s models of the moment – until now. Griffiths, who first joined Max Mara in 1987 (after winning a student competition), casts Vittoria Ceretti as the face and embodiment of his Spring 2025 collection – who stars in the accompanying campaign. The designer ultimately commissioned Craig McDean as campaign photographer for yet another season, marking the photographer’s third consecutive campaign for the Italian fashion brand. Throughout the chic and sophisticated imagery (styled by Tonne Goodman), the Italian beauty roams a minimalist set, proving herself to be the ultimate Max Mara woman.

Ian Griffiths of Max Mara remains loyal to Craig McDean. Griffiths first called upon McDean to lens the Spring 2024 campaign last season. The switch marked a departure from campaigns captured by Ethan James Green, and from the long-serving Max Mara campaign photographer Steven Meisel before that. Griffiths, who joined Max Mara in 1987 and became creative director in 2005, welcomes back McDean for the Fall 2024 season and enlists models Ali Dansky, Bibi Breslin, and Luiza Perote as the faces of his collection. The girls roam Lever House on 390 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City complete with styling from Tonne Goodman.

Tonne Goodman was enlisted as cover shoot stylist, who opted to dress Hathaway in an asymmetrical black Versace dress and Bulgari jewelry for the occasion of Anne’s debut French Vogue cover appearance.

Wintour insisted on Australian film director (and friend) Baz Luhrmann profiling Lively for her latest Vogue cover shoot, with Hugh Jackman getting in on the action too for a “Hitchcock-inspired fashion fantasia”. Styled by Tonne Goodman, Blake sports a voluminous up-do in the portrait cover shot, clutching a Cartier diamond necklace and dressed in a black dress from the Fall 2024 Michael Kors collection.

Ian Griffiths had enlisted Steven Meisel for what felt like forever as Max Mara’s campaign photographer, until tasking Ethan James Green with the job for the Fall 2022 season. As a result, the young American photographer has since captured the Italian fashion brand’s Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 campaign imagery too. Once again, Griffiths, Max Mara’s long-serving creative director find himself in the mood for change and enlists Craig McDean as campaign photographer for Spring 2024. Griffiths opted to keep model Karolina Spakowski for another season, who is joined by He Cong and Felice Nova Noordhoff. Styled by Tonne Goodman, the girls roam the interiors of the brutalist Breuer Building in New York City throughout the series of campaign images.

Another face we’ve seen before on the cover of American fashion bible is welcomed back with Wintour’s open arms, with the unveiling of the magazine’s November 2023 edition. Carey Mulligan, now a four-time American Vogue cover girl, poses for photographer Jack Davison in the unconventional profile cover image, with stylist Tonne Goodman dressing the English actress in an intriguing dress from Nicolas Ghesquière’s Resort 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton.

Members of our forums, however, won’t be making a mad dash for a newsstand anytime soon. “I’m happy for Carey but I don’t like anything about this… I’m sure there were better cover pictures,” said kokobombon upon seeing the cover.
“What the f**k,” exclaimed mikel.
“Too much going on, huh? Nothing really stands out. This was a terrible cover choice,” echoed an underwhelmed KINGofVERSAILLES.
Vogue28 wasn’t feeling it either, adding: “One big mess and one massive blur! How the mighty have fallen, when you look back at American Vogue covers throughout the years when everything was so direct, polished and oozed a sense of glamour. The photography here is awful, as is the lighting which resembles one of those hideous Instagram filters.”

Back in Fall 2022, Ian Griffiths ditched Steven Meisel as Max Mara’s campaign photographer, in favor of Ethan James Green. Until recently, Meisel had captured the Italian high-end fashion label’s advertising campaign for years and the changing of the guard remains in full effect for the Fall 2023 season, as EJG is welcomed back once again. Now shooting his third consecutive campaign for Max Mara, the American model-turned-photographer remains inside his photographic studio, and shoots models Imaan Hammam and Karolina Spakowksi. The campaign is complete with Tonne Goodman styling out the girls in Griffiths’ ultra-chic and luxurious collection boasting rich cashmere, wool and leather.

Something, however, appeared a little off through the eyes of our forum members. “Karolina looks like an AI creation,” shrieked mikel.
“They Photoshopped Karolina’s face to look like Rebecca Romjin’s. I guess Ethan has also taken on the excess on Meisel’s current post-production with gusto,” noted Cocteau Stone.
“The amount of Photoshop used on this image is ridiculous, did he take lessons from Luigi & Iango?” asked FashionPower.
“Looks like an American Vogue editorial, not a campaign. The smiling made it commercial. And not in a good way,” jeremydante voiced.
Yet not everyone was so unforgiving. “The suspicious Photoshop activity aside, I’m liking what I see thus far! It’s Ethan James Green doing his best Steven Meisel impression, feels quintessential Max Mara and the inclusion of Imaan Hammam is just the icing on the cake,” commented vogue28.

Adele’s long-awaited comeback divided our forums. “Just bad, the composition of the cover doesn’t make sense to me, the text is weirdly arranged. Her expression is so not inviting and looks like the sun is bothering her,” voiced YohjiAddict.
